network marketing and multilevel marketing (MLM)?

March 17th, 2012 7 comments

Question by Sarah: network marketing and multilevel marketing (MLM)?
Are they real? Does anyone really get “financial freedom” through them? Why do they all say someone who has no interest or experience in selling can still do it? If the person has no interest in selling, why do they still push it? is anyone else irritated with these types of “businesses”?

Answer by N L
In reality, if you really work hard at something, you can “make it”. Same goes form MLM. You have to work very very hard at it, its not just a part-time thing like they claim.

And look at the numbers, probably thousands have tried, but only one made it rich. Therefore, it becomes just like any other business.

Personally, I don’t feel that they’re that legitimate though.

The biggest advice I can give you that helped me recruit 2 people in 6 days from my cold market into my business and that helped me hit the first rank in my company in 30 days after struggling in my business for 6 months, is to develop a business and marketing blueprint for your business. Here is what I mean by this:

1) First, come up with a gameplan for the next 30 days in your business. I can help coach you on how to do this but first set a goal for the next 30 days in your business. The goal can be to recruit 2 reps into your business for your right leg.
2) Next, you need to know your numbers. Network marketing is a numbers game. The more people you talk to and expose your business to, the more successful you will be. You have to know how many people you need to get in front of everyday in order to find the marketing strategies that can help you get in front of that many people. Knowing your numbers is key! So here is how you come up with your numbers. To sponsor, 2 reps in the next 30 days in your business, here are the numbers that you will need:

Monthly Goals:
-20 presentations/month: To sponsor 2 reps, you need to get your business presentation in front of at LEAST 20 people in the next month. You need to book 20 appointments. You need to get 20 people to book an appointment with you to see your company presentation. I used a facebook marketing strategy that had people book an appointment directly with me using a free online calendar system, that way I only talked to people who were serious about the opportunity. How did I come up with 20 presentations? In this industry, it has been said that when you are approaching your cold market, you should have at least a 10%closing ratio, which means for every 10 people you get in front of a presentation, you should be able to sign up 1 person into your business. So I took the number of people you want to sponsor a month (2) and multiplied by 10 and got 20. Hope that makes sense.
-Talk to 80 people/month: You need to talk to at least 80 people a month in order to get 20 people in front of your presentation. The mistake I see a lot of network marketers make is not talking to enough people. A great book to read is: Your First Year in Network Marketing by Mark Yarnell. Yarnell is a millionaire in the industry and he mentioned that if you are doing your business full-time you need to talk to at least 30 people/day. How did I come up with 80 people/month? Not everyone you approach about booking an appointment to watch your presentation will be interested, what I have seen inside of the industry and from personal experience is that 1 out of 4 people who you approach should be open to looking at your opportunity. So I took 20 presentations a month and multiplied it by 4. Hope this makes sense.

Weekly Goals:
To get your weekly goals, just take your 2 numbers above and divide by 4.
-Presentations:5 presentations/week: So you need to get 5 people in front of a presentation every week. Book 5 appointments every week
-Contact: 80 contacts/4= 20 people/week. Ask 20 people a week if they would be interested in viewing your business opportunity.

Daily Goals:
To get your daily goals, just take your 2 weekly goals above and divide it by the number of days you are doing your business. So if you are working on your business 5 days a week then,
-Presentations: 1 presentation/day. You need to book an appointment with 1 person a day and get them in front of a presentation
-Contact: 20 contacts/5 days: 4 people/day. You need to approach 4 people a day

Marketing Blueprint:
Now to figure out what marketing strategies you are going to use to contact this many people a day (4 people/day), you need to look at your marketing budget, your skills, and the amount of time you have to work your business each week. Here is a chart of active and passive marketing strategies that you can choose from:

-Active Offline: cold calling, meetup groups, networking events, situational prospecting, voicemail broadcasting
-Active Online: facebook, linkedin, twitter, myspace, resume mining
-Passive Offline: post it notes (really cool strategy), Bandit Signs, Drop Cards
-Passive Online: Facebook payperclick, Google payperclick, Craigslist, Backpage, Article Marketing, Blogging, Video Marketing

What you want to do is focus on at least 2 active strategies and 1 passive strategy. Devote most of your time on active strategies. If you want access to some free training on most of these strategies, feel free to send me an email (angela@angelamcarter.com) and I can give you access to my free training site.

Hope this helps! Just make sure to track your results everyday and make sure that you hit your daily, weekly, and monthly numbers and you WILL see results

MLM/Network Marketing??? Why do so few make a profit in this industry?

March 13th, 2012 2 comments

Question by Minkow: MLM/Network Marketing??? Why do so few make a profit in this industry?
Is it effort or design?

All pay plans require a substantial amount of recruits/customers to make a significant amount of income.

Occasionally some new recruits are so talented and aggressive they do build a modest downline network below them. They are anomalies because mathematics require that the system can only support a small number of financial winners. If a thousand downliners are needed for a distributor to earn a respectable profit from this system, those thousand will need one million more to similarly support them and that one million will, accordingly, need one billion!

So many participants justify the failures as lack of effort. Mathematics show that if “efforts” were maximized the business would collapse through exponential growth.

Does this not show failure by design?

MLM’s are looked upon as scams because you recruit to make money and also said there pyramids. On one hand this can be true but on the other hand, if your moving product and the “FEE” (if you will) includes product to sell then its a good business. The only reason they say recruit is for residual income. Meaning you can stop working and have others make money for you. You would be paid a certain percentage of what they earn. If you look at it, major retailors are MLMs as well. They get paid if you sell. The managers get bonuses for what the store brings in and having staff.
I sell candles. And it to is called MLM. I do not treat is as a scam because I can earn money on my own. Yes I have 3 people under me. I don’t worry if they sell because its there business. I am there to help if they want or need it. If people want to join under me great, I’ll be there if they need me but I wont go looking for people to join.
You can choose to do the same thing if you wish. Remember it will be your business and no one can tell you how to run it.

I hope this helps. Sorry for the Rant.

Good Luck!

Network Marketing or Multi-level Marketing (MLM) is a new kind of business model developed in last 8-10 years. Initially, it met with grand success, but of recent, it’s kind of worn out, as nobody seems to like them anymore.

In a nutshell, MLM means A makes an ass out of B, and then B makes an ass out of C, and C makes an ass out of D; so, C earns X dollars, out of which B takes a X1% commission and A takes X2% commission (X1>x2); B earns Y dollars from C, from which he pays Y1% commission to A.

In the end game, A is a big winner, who’s succeeded with the “network”, and D feels like kicking his own ass. In many cases, A, B, C, D happen to be close friends or acquaintances, as STRANGERS are unlikely to trust you with their money. So, Network Marketing is a great way to SCREW all your present relationships.

I just started an online business and I am new to this whole Network Marketing thing. Any advice?

Question by : I just started an online business and I am new to this whole Network Marketing thing. Any advice?
I am a stay at home mom that was looking for something to do to help with the bills. I joined an online business opportunity that has real potential, I just have no idea what I am doing. I have never been in Network Marketing or owned anything that even resembled a business. I am on Facebook and Twitter. But I have noticed that Facebook is getting overrun with others who are in the same opportunity that I am so the competition is becoming a bit overwhelming. Twitter is great but it takes time to “tweet” often enough to stand out among the thousands doing the same thing. I have also tried Craigslist, I’ve heard that this is good to use, again I have no idea so it could be the one thing I shouldn’t do! I have to say I am a little frustrated because it seems that in order to get any advice or help whatsoever I have to pay for it and that gets expensive. I am trying to help PAY the bills not create more bills to pay! I am wondering if there is anyone out there who started like I am, from no experience, and made it happen. I don’t need sarcastic comments or useless offers for free e-books or anything else other than real advice from people who have real experience in this industry. What worked or didn’t work for you? What do I do now, when it seems like everyone around me is able to build their team and I am just sitting here waiting for someone to notice what I am saying.

Thanks in advance,

Kari

Kari,

The web is a tangled place to do business and unless you have a product of your own or something that Everyone Wants, then it is a hard place to make money.

That is why I chose a different program that allows me to make a Very Good income in publishing. Yes I actually sell books, nothing digital. I work part time, as a sales consultant, for “Practical Memoir” they publish a book that allows anyone to write there own memoir. Most people that get the book have completed it in a few days or weeks.

Then when they have put their life story into print, they mail a copy of the book back to “Practical Memoir” and order copies of the finished book for their family members. The cool part is that each book ends up costing only about $ 20 and makes the BEST gift you could ever give a loved one.

So how do I make my money from this? As I mentioned I work as a “Practical Memoir Consultant” and host parties with friends and family just like Pampered Chef. I sell copies of the book at the events(average sale is 2 books per guest, 1 for the guest and 1 for a friend of theirs) then we all sit around with snacks and start the process of completing our books. A few days later when those guest are done, they mail in the books order the copies etc…..

I get paid right at the party for the Profit on the books sold at the party, then I also get 25% commission on all the reprints. It is great residual income that is their for life. In January I made $ 1,692 in commissions from doing only 4 shows. In February I did 7 parties, and plan to bring in close to $ 2,500 for my next check. I now also have 3 girlfriends working in my network and have just started seeing overides on their sales. Plus, if I keep this pace going I will be looking at making bonuses.

Best of Luck

Jen

Do you have any suggestions for a home-based business that do NOT rely on Network Marketing or personal sales?

March 5th, 2012 3 comments

Question by John S.: Do you have any suggestions for a home-based business that do NOT rely on Network Marketing or personal sales?
I have two home based businesses that rely on network marketing and I’m sorry, they just don’t work for me where I am located. The locals here on the border next to Mexico like to deal mostly in cash and they send it mostly to Mexico, they don’t trust U.S. banks, they don’t use credit cards and if they do, they are paranoid about system charging their account. They don’t use internet, they often don’t have voice mail, they don’t keep appointments and are habitually late if they even show up. As a “stupid Gringo” to them, they don’t trust anything Gringo says so ANYTHING having to do with person-to-person sales just does not work for me in this market…and I’m a top salesperson in every other market I’ve lived in. I’m here for the time being, though, and am looking for a home-based business that does not rely on person-to-person sales or even sales at all. Something more consistent and predictable that pays for the time and work put into it in a way you can count on it. Any ideas?

Why are so many people scared of network marketing?

March 1st, 2012 2 comments

Question by Mike_aus: Why are so many people scared of network marketing?
I’ve noticed that many people are scared to try any form of income generation other than a 9-5 job. These same people tell me they WANT to be wealthy, yet when I suggest they look at LEGITIMATE network marketing options they get scared and think everything is a pyramid scam etc. Could the mass fear around the concept of a “pyramid scheme” have been created by people such as governments who have a vested interest in keeping people employed in traditional industries?
SteveB – I’m assuming we’re talking about legitimate network marketing companies which abide by relevant legislation. E.g. Monavie, XanGo, Avon, etc.
Of the 2 answers so far – both have more proved my point than offered any substantial reasoning. Claims such as “most are scams” etc merely prove that the overriding perception exists. The outcome is that most people refrain from thinking for themselves and making up their own minds, instead running with the flock.

Let’s keep in mind that there are genuine reasons why distributing a product through network marketing models is beneficial – cheap, fast, efficient. It is no less legitimate than a multinational retail chain abusing their financial power to rip off consumers.

The everyday company has uplines and downlines – and 99.9% of companies are pyramid structured – Owner at top, CEO, Upped management, middle management, low levels, etc.

So everyone is working in a pyramid – is it the lack of 9-5 work that people are scared of?

Best answer:

Answer by Steve B
It’s a bit like asking ‘Has the Government created the fear of Mugging in order to oppress the working classes ?”

You have got it back to front .. the fear has been created by the con-merchants, scam-artists and criminals who have run Pyramid Scheme scams in the past .. and who have ‘got away with it’ and still get away with it) due to the disinterest of the Government ..

Lack of supervision, lack of specific laws (and failure to enforce what applicable laws exist) plus the fact no-one is interested in helping you get your money back means that MOST people regard ALL ‘Network Marketing’ schemes with deep suspicion ..

Finally there is the undeniable fact the in MOST Network Marketing Schemes the ONLY way to make any “real” money is to focus on recruiting others and NOT waste your time selling the product (you let the ‘down-lines’ do that .. ) ..this means that they are ALL Pyramid Schemes (in everything but name) …

Why do close minded people think network marketing is a Pyramid?

February 27th, 2012 2 comments

Question by tsmalls5: Why do close minded people think network marketing is a Pyramid?
Heres my problem! Every morning alarm clocks are sounding around 6 A.M. and the average person wakes up goes to work for some company and slaves 8 or more hours a week for a mere pittance of a paycheck. They work hard for years and absolutely have no shot of getting to the top of that company to make the big bucks one day. Then there is the Owner who sits on top of it all, living a lavish lifestyle making 4-5 times more $ $ $ than the employee…not to mention they work a lot less. Why is this not a pyramid scheme?

And then u hear of a network marking company where you and your friends and family can work together to help make each other more rich and people say “o no this is a pyramid scheme”! O yeah by the way I work with Primerica and I make money with them as well.

I am just saying that network marketing companies offer the people who have dreams to be the owners of their own businesses because thats what it takes to be financially free today. A normal job just doesn’t cut it!

Networking is something that people do everyday! They refer people to people that they do business with because it makes them feel good to be doing something to help someone else’s business grow.

However, when you combine network with marketing….Network Marketing…. People seem to want to run the other way. I truly believe a lot of that comes from bad experiences they have either had or heard about. It also comes from a lack of understanding what it is that we network marketers do.

Our lives are innertwined with network marketing daily. Our jobs…. Our government – now there is a pyramid for you!… Our families…and the list goes on!

I guess our job also includes trying to educate people that it really is okay to be involved with network marketing. It takes being self-employed to a whole new level (no punn intended).

They are in charge of their own success or failure… Maybe that is where the real fear lies???

Why are Filipinos so negative about Network Marketing?

February 25th, 2012 5 comments

Question by : Why are Filipinos so negative about Network Marketing?
when you go to USA or Canada, and when you tell them that you do Networking, most of them would say “You must be rich”.

Pero dito sa Philippines, sasabihin sayo pag nalaman nagnenetworking ka, “scammer ka!”, pagtatawanan ka pa.

Why would the top universities here teach network marketing if it’s a scam?

http://www.dlsu.edu.ph/academics/colleges/cob/cpdbe/courses/default.asp

Best answer:

Answer by Marc
That could be one point where Filipinos are smarter than many people in Canada or the US.
Network Marketing aka Multi-level marketing (MLM) is in reality a Ponzi scheme in disguise to make it legal. People at the top of the pyramid earn millions (in dollars, not pesos). Those in the middle of the pyramid make it sometimes even but they transform all their friends and relatives into business partners and thus destroy their social life. Those at the bottom of the pyramid invest and lose all their assets to buy training courses, seminars, books and DVD etc… and they never break even.
So if Filipinos resists MLM, that is one thing they can be proud of.
