Question by rcoli: Am I the only person getting phone calls from on line colleges?
Hello. I keep getting these phone calls all hours of the day and night from online colleges, most noteably the University Of Phoenix, but other colleges also claiming I filled out an online application, which I did not. I’m on the “do not call registry” and for the most part the telemarketing has stopped.
The people who do the calling seem to act as if I’m not the only one who has unwanted calls from them, and they claim to remove me from their list, but I still get calls from the same numbers on my caller i.d.. I did a search online for those numbers thinking that others maybe getting the same calls, but I get nothing. Have you gotten a call like this?

Yes. I have received many calls from all kinds of college’s, I actually ended up accepting a call from the University of Phoenix! I am now enrolled with that exact college, but I understand that they will call repeatedly they have myself and some of my family. If they wont stop the calling by asking them to I would suggest calling your phone company and telling them you want to have those numbers blocked from your phone.

Question by asdfghjkl;: telemarketing phone calls with no number?
okay so for the past week people from the “seniors with diabetes” group has been calling my house. sometimes twice a day. they won’t reveal a phone number and will ask if we have caller ID, then hang up if we ask again or threaten to report. it shows up as 1 (000) 000-0000 and “name unavailable” can someone tell me how to stop them (not really possible) or tell me if it’s possible to block the number? thanks!

I use (and wrote) CallClerk to stop telemarketer calls. It will autohangup on the call based on the caller id number whatever it may be. To run CallClerk you need a windows pc and a modem that supports caller id reporting (the modem you can get for about $ 10 depending on your pc).

Question by What the…?: Automatic dialing telemarketing calls are annoying, need help.?
I am on the national do not call registry. Still, once or twice a week I am bothered by unsolicited calls originating from automatic dialers, no human caller. I say hello, there is a 10 second pause, then a prerecorded message asks if I want to 1) reduce the interest rate on my credit card, or 2) extend my automobile warranty. “Press 1 to talk to one of our live representatives.” How annoying! Any suggestions?

In Canada, they only have 3 seconds to get a human on the line after you answer. If you have call display, record the number and forward it to whoever is responsible for prosecuting telemarketers that do not abide by the registry. Good luck.

Question by Butchie Y: How can I stop telemarketing calls on my cell phone?
I keep getting calls from seemingly random area codes and numbers, with an automated voice telling me that “This is my second notice that the factory warranty on my vehicle is about to expire.” This is all BS because that happened long ago. How can I stop them from calling, they call me about once a week, every week, and I am so angry.

Question by In God We Trust: CONSUMER ALERT – BEWARE: Calls from “Job Line”?
Beware!!!! This is actually $ 9/Minute Scam
Consumers report receiving automated message calls from a service calling itself “The Jobline” where you’re told they have jobs for you. It’s just a scam. If you call the number back, you will get charged $ 9 per minute, according to messages left in online forums where people share information on telemarketing numbers. They seem to be using the number 976-4477 in different area codes. A scam targeting people already hard up for work and money, that’s pretty high on the Richter scale of sleaziness.
You should contact the Attorney General in your particular State, the Better Business Bureau and other government agencies about this scam.
Please watch your caller IDs so as NOT to get caught up in this mess.
By all means, please tell me what you think about this matter.

PLEASE pass this along to another deserving person. Thanks.

Question by bubble: Is anybody getting telemarketing calls on their cell phone?
I always thought they’d only call your home number but apparently not. This morning my cell phone woke me up and it was the same “courtesy” call I’ve been getting on my home phone for like half a year now! Has anybody else been getting or has gotten any type of telemarketing calls on your cell phone before?
I only text occasionally and only to a few of my close friends, nobody or nothing else. What puzzles me is that it’s the same call I’ve been getting on my home phone. They’ve been calling for months and months now, about 3 calls a day.

Nope….but I think I know why…sometimes organizations(like the places you text after seeing a commercial) sell your # to telemarketers. And the only way I heard of for getting rid of that is paying for an extra service to block that. Or if it’s just 1 #, have your provider block the #.

Question by CodeVeronica: I keep getting telemarketing phone calls from the phone number: “(866) 270-6730″ (without the quotation marks)?
I keep getting telemarketing phone calls from the phone number: (866) 270-6730
Almost every single time (if not every time) the person (or automated calling machine) never says anything or leaves any messages. I have told hem to stop calling, but they haven’t. They call me like 20 times a day, everyday (even holidays). The name on the Caller ID is “TOLL FREE CALL” (in all caps), and the number is the one I said above (8662706730). What should I do?

Report the number to the FCC and file a complaint. You can do that online.
When you told them to stop calling, you should have said, “Take me off your list” They will take you off the list after about 3 days.
By law, they are only allowed to call between 8 am to 8 pm and no more than 3 times a day
