Does the National Do Not Call list apply to cell phones?

May 8th, 2012 No comments

Question by ♪cat nipples♪: Does the National Do Not Call list apply to cell phones?
I only have a cell phone because it’s just cheaper than a land line. I am constantly getting telemarketing calls. I registered my number with the “National Do not Call list” and I swear it’s gotten even worse! Does it not count for cell phones? Or is it really just bs?

Best answer:

Answer by emotionalzombie7997
It should work for cell phones as well. Keep registering your phone number until it stops. If you gave your number to people because of over due bills this does not apply. But if people are calling you that you did not give your number to write down all of the details and report them to the do not call list.

DOESN’T telemarketing MEAN SALES? AD MAKES NO SENSE !!?

May 7th, 2012 No comments

Question by Esmee ♥: DOESN’T telemarketing MEAN SALES? AD MAKES NO SENSE !!?
This job ad is confusing.
The job title is : Customer service agent (/Sales)
But in the other information section it says: “This is NOT a telemarketing position.”

I’m looking for a job for my little brother in gr. 12. Where I get confused is I thought tele”Marketing” means sales lol. Any thoughts/advice :)

Thanks

yes, telemarketing is PART of sales, but sales is not necessarily telemarketing that means the job can be anything else including handling customers enquiries or orders.

What to say in job interviews about school?

May 5th, 2012 No comments

Question by : What to say in job interviews about school?
I don’t attend school but I’m always hearing nowadays you need school to have a job. I have no intention of going to school and if I did, what i would major in has nothing to do with what I’m applying for (example: sales associate at clothing store or customer service at telemarketing place but attend culinary school). So should I just say “yes I will attend school soon when I have the money” or just continue to tell them I have no option in pursuing college?

Two days ago I put in an application online and I had to call this number to complete the whole application process stuff. Anyways I called that number and I swear it wasn’t even asking me about the job stuff it was more like questioning me about school; like am I in school, or a graduate, or planing to be in school.. i’m like dude, I working right now and I have a family to take care of. I have a lot of things going on my plate and I am trying to get in school next spring. and all he was trying to do was enroll-Transferr me to an agent and enroll me in school.. i said forget that, i hung up on him. i mean i understand why its important to be in school but please respect that i already told you i just had a new born, currently working day shift but looking for a night time job and get my family situated first.. i was pretty mad when i hung up on him.

Give me a way to ask a complete stranger for their phone number?

May 4th, 2012 3 comments

Question by Danielle: Give me a way to ask a complete stranger for their phone number?
Hi All.
I work at a popular department store as a cashier and part of my job is having to ask people for their phone number. Its purely so my company can send out coupons to them. I have no problem doing this, but naturally I’m getting alot of mean people that immediately assume its for telemarketing purposes.
I’m looking for a creative, fun way to ask someone for their number other than “Maa’m, may I please have your telephone number?”. Best answer gets 10 points!
Thanx in advance :)

Honesty is the best policy. Making up things that aren’t true could wind you up in bigger trouble than you could imagine. Tell people the truth and they will either give you their phone number or not. To tell the truth I never understood why they always wanted my phone number and I’m actually glad I know why know. Perhaps if you explained it to the customers when they say “no”….they would be more willing to give in. Good luck.

How can I report harrasing telemarketers?

May 3rd, 2012 6 comments

Question by Kyle of Romany: How can I report harrasing telemarketers?
I have been put on the national “Do Not Call List” and my phone line is my buisness line. This same telemarketing firm has been soliciting me repeatedly. I have their phone # and location. I have requested they put me on their list and I currently am on the federal list. They are therefore in violation of law, how do I go about pursuing a complaint?

Best answer:

Answer by William C
Go to Do not Call and you will find a link to report those in violation. You need the number of the caller and the approx. time they called.

I am working for a Telemarketing company whose client doesnt require a Record Check, does this mean im safe?

Question by The Wise Cat Named Binky: I am working for a Telemarketing company whose client doesnt require a Record Check, does this mean im safe?
I have a “Conviction” from NJ called a 3rd Degree Crime that would make me “Fail” a Background Check on Most if not All Jobs. I became Employed with a Telemarketing Company that does “Warm Calling.” Im asking for your opinion ona matter, to see if i made the best of a Sticky Situation… You Opinions are welcomed, as im -Overjoyed- to be Employed! Here is the deal:

There are two clients, Citi and DirecTV. I am put on the Citi team, and we offer IdentityMonitor. The CITI Team does NOT need to be record-checked, as Citi does not require it..but for DirecTV and for Supervisors, they DO require one.

I have been assigned to the Citi team.. so I will not be Record-Checked because of this. (This si per H.R. Also alluded to by person that gave me Application, when i asked abou tthe question “Have I Ever Been Convicted of a Felony”… You check Yes, you dont get a Job, because you can NEVER work for DirecTV.)

In Citi, i dont deal with “Personal Information” Except to Verify the Address and Name, on a calll, IF they consent to have their card billed $ 1.. (its in the Script.) DirecTV is obviously a full-service Screen that Their “WinBack” Reps see Account Numbers and things… thus “Confidential Information”… Thus, not for me.

So, basically, I feel as long as i stay at Citi within the Company )there are more than a few companies these companies contract, i work for one of them,) I should be “OK” and “Safe,” As long as i dont expose myself to the situation in which i would be “Record-checked” and have the whole “Was it a Felony or a Midemeanor” Debate with H.R. (The one ill never get to have because the Check i will not pass, as different jobs have told me different things and i lost the thing that came from Home Depot a long time ago) Soo.. i can just avoid that whole “Felony/Conviction” Bomb as long as i stay at Citi, yes?

*BTW: H.R. Seemed to indicate that they will do a Record Check IF THE CLIENT REQUIRES IT (I.E. DirecTV..) Citi does NOT Require this check, manager said “We wont run one on ya for Citi, but for DirecTV they/we do.”

Oh, and also.. BTW2: When i fille dout the Application, she told me “Well If it is not a FelonyAs you understand it to be (*I have Papers to show its not, and she said) Well if it comes to that.. We have Clients you can work for that dont require you to see Confidential Information.”
- ME: “So if I put down “No,” Ill be OK?”
- HER: “Yes.”

I got called later that day.. Started working 2 days later.. and had GREAT Interview with the same person!

The Telemarketing Company is your employer. They hired you knowing about your past and said it was ok. I don’t understand how their clients can force the telemarketing company’s employees to do anything. You have papers showing you didn’t commit a felony so your company needs to grow a backbone and stop allowing other companies to boss their employees around. If the telemarketing company is doing a great job for them, they’ll stick around. Congrats on your job and good luck.

What does it mean when an employer says this?

April 30th, 2012 8 comments

Question by : What does it mean when an employer says this?
A friend and I went out and started looking for more jobs today and we went to a telemarketing place that had a sign over their place that said “NOW HIRING” in huge letters. We filled out the applications and gave it to the manager who looked at us, smiled, and said “we will look over these and DEFINATELY be calling you back tomorrow. We are extremely desperate for workers right now.”

Does this mean I have a chance or is she just being nice?

Is this a new low for telemarketing?

April 29th, 2012 3 comments

Question by motz39baseball: Is this a new low for telemarketing?
I was riding in an elevator at school and there was an incoming call to the emergency phone asking if I wanted to get a better interest rate on some loan, I just needed to push “1″ for more options.
I’m wondering if maybe there was some loan agent waiting for me on the first floor…

Good Luck! Telemarketers are the dregs of the earth in many peoples eyes. Most hate them more than used car salesmen. Try not to call around dinner time or late evening. Just be polite, and be ready to get a lot of grief. Don’t take it too seriously.
