February 22nd, 2012 No comments

Question by chiller: How do i get rid of telemarketing emails?
I visited a electronic dept. store a few months back and filled out their “chance to win”, and that is when my problems began. I get 60 and over email per day. During the holiday season i receive 360 pieces of email over the weekend. I have tried spamming and blocking them, but they come right back, more often then not they are the same identical email name and addresses. What can i do next to stop them? HELPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!

How to fight spam and scams:

#1: Yahoo has a spamguard filter, but only if multiple users report an address as spam will it be treated as such by the filter.

You have a personal list for blocking addresses in spam options. Anything you mark as spam in Mail classic will be added to that list, in New Yahoo mail adding addresses to the list has to be done manually. If you ever receive anything from those addresses in the future, it will be deleted automatically, you won’t even notice when you got some more crap from them. One problem though: the list of blocked addresses is limited to 500 and spammers often change their address. So you must sometimes delete some of the older blocked addresses to make room for new ones.

Go to this link where everything is explained in detail:

http://help.yahoo.com/us/tutorials/mail/mail/spamguard1.html

#2: The Federal Trade Commission (www.ftc.gov) is supposed to help you eliminate spam mails. Forward spam to: spam@uce.gov, in the subject line enter something like “unsubscribe link results in more spam”, “unwanted spam message”, “no unsubscribe link” or something similar.

When the FTC gets your mail, they will look into the matter and when they find out who the spamming source is, they will take legal actions.

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/edcams/spam/index.html

#3: Check Mailwasher, it helps to eliminate spam from your inbox…

Set up your email account(s) in MailWasher and hit the “Check Mail” button. It then downloads all new message headers and displays message details alongside each one (priority, subject, from, to, etc.). Any email that MailWasher considers to be spam is highlighted for easy sorting.

Two checkboxes are located next to each message header: “Delete” and “Bounce”. If you click “Delete” the email will be marked for deletion, click “Bounce” and the mail will be marked for bouncing – a fake “address not found” email will be sent to the sender. Once you have decided what to bounce and delete, click “Process Mail” to get it done and your mail client launched for downloading all accepted emails.

MailWasher has a “blacklist” and a “friends list” to enter good and bad email addresses. Addresses in the blacklist are marked for deletion, and addresses in the friends list will be marked as okay. Filters can be set to increase MailWasher’s effectiveness. You can have email addressed to “undisclosed recipients” automatically deleted and bounced for example.

Note: the program is free but limited to one email account. MW Pro supports multiple mail accounts.

where can I find information regarding telemarketing efficiency?

Question by nunezf: where can I find information regarding telemarketing efficiency?
i work for a company dedicated to the delivery of bank account monthly statements, and we want to start a call center… if the question is: “did you received your monthly statement?”… how can I learn about the expected efficiency of the calls?

Best answer:

Answer by Ann N. Cephalic
Start with one telemarketer, one dedicated line, and see how it goes for a month’s time. If it pays for itself, then go for more lines.
It would surprise me if that’s the ONLY question asked, because unless you’re pushing other services, how’s that going to be worth the expense? A business line costs about $ 50 or more a month, and a decent telemarketer earns $ 8.00 an hour or more.
It isn’t “marketing” if you only ask a question, it’s surveying. Marketing is selling a product or service.

What do you guys think of your cell phone providers selling your phone numbers to telemarketing companies?

Question by DesiD: What do you guys think of your cell phone providers selling your phone numbers to telemarketing companies?
I had a friend from Verizon tell me that they are going to start having a calling list full of cell phone numbers, which isn’t right because it will use all your minutes. If anyone else has this problem I have the same company that calls my house like 6 times a day while I am at work. There is a number for a “do not call” list though I deleted the text though so I don’t have it but Im sure someone else has heard about it!

without my permission; i would say they sold property two times over and should be sued for fraud. the consumers has property rights over the phone number.

How can I stop telemarketing calls on my cell phone?

February 18th, 2012 3 comments

Question by Butchie Y: How can I stop telemarketing calls on my cell phone?
I keep getting calls from seemingly random area codes and numbers, with an automated voice telling me that “This is my second notice that the factory warranty on my vehicle is about to expire.” This is all BS because that happened long ago. How can I stop them from calling, they call me about once a week, every week, and I am so angry.

Question by mysteriouswun: What does a “Sales Assistant” do?
This is not in a clothing store or anything, it is at an office for a company. Is the sales assistant required to do any telemarketing or actually sell? I don’t mind doing clerical work for a sales team, but I don’t want to have to do their job and make there commission for them, you know what I mean?

You need to ask specific questions at the job interview. Let them explain all job details, and then ask questions.

Curious – How do people get jobs as telemarketing/Internet scammers?

February 15th, 2012 No comments

Question by Taiga: Curious – How do people get jobs as telemarketing/Internet scammers?
You always hear about these scammers located overseas. Payday loan scams, telemarketing scams, Internet scams, you name it. How do people go about getting these “jobs”, I wouldn’t think it’s something you could apply for.

Best answer:

Answer by Claudia C
Down here in Florida, you cannot turn a corner without knowing some shady telemarketing activity is going on. A lot of these jobs are posted on craigslist…or advertised via word of mouth….
They are usually commission only, and when you arrive they look seedy, sound seedy; must be seedy. There is usually a room full of salespeople, but no where in sight is there a place for fulfillment of whatever they are selling.
Scammers are everywhere, they will find a location and work with it. All they need is a phone and they are on. Rule of thumb, in my opinion, if you want to buy something, you look into it..if someone calls you, sounds too good to be true, likely it is. Hope this answers your question.

Looking for Info On “Everglade Consulting Group”?

February 14th, 2012 No comments

Question by : Looking for Info On “Everglade Consulting Group”?
I’m looking for information on an apparent non-profit organization called the Everglade Consulting Group.

All I know is that they claim to be a non-profit organization that is concerned with Ontario’s health and safety. Homeowners in my area have received numerous telemarketing calls from companies who claim to be sponsored by this non-profit group to provide free services, however any research I’ve done leads me to dead ends. At least as far as the internet is concerned, they don’t exist.

Closest that I’ve found is an inactive, for profit company based out of Florida called the Everglades Consulting Group, but I can hardly even find anything about them.

Please help me find out what this company is.

I would like to know why my response to this was removed. They are run out of the same business as the one doing the calls. Scammers so beware! If you would like more info email me at shopperval@hotmail.com

Has anyone watched the show “30 Days” and have had a change in trajectory on a political stand because of it?

February 13th, 2012 10 comments

Question by Chi Guy: Has anyone watched the show “30 Days” and have had a change in trajectory on a political stand because of it?
I viewed it for the first time last night. In the first show, a “minuteman” civilian border patrol guy was asked to live with a family of illegals for 30 days. During the last few days he went to Mexico to see where the family came from. I was heart broken when I saw the conditions they lived in. It was basically a 150 foot red brick enclosure with a tin roof and no running water for a family of five.

The second show I watched, a software programmer’s job was outsourced to India and he was pissed about it. So they sent him to live in India for 30 Days and work at a telemarketing center. A supervisor there had five family members, counting himself, sleeping four to one bed while he slept on the floor next to it. I was amazed and appalled at the poverty that was their daily lives over there.

Has anyone here seen any episodes of this show? If so did it have an impact on you?
Also, by seeing how the workers in India live 5 people to one room, it proves what I have said all along that simply cutting corporate taxes would not even put a dent in the disparity between what a US worker requires for pay vs a worker in countries such as India.

Unless US workers are willing to live five people per 300 square foot home without a toilet.
Paul (below) Yaw. People don’t “hate America” because they are poor. The hate America for propping up dictators in their regions. You know, like Reagan did with Saddam Hussein.
No Pinheads (below) Agreed, to a point. However, those conditions are unimaginable in the 21st century.

Why do you refuse to watch it again?
bmovies6… (below) Great twist on my words. Now try being honest about what I stated above for once.

You canNOT make up the disparity in PAY and BENEFITS that are required by US workers in comparison to 3rd world country workers with tax cuts. That is a simple FACT regardless of opinion.

The government would have to pay US workers 75% of their salary and benefits to equalize the difference. UNLESS US workers were willing to live in abject poverty and earn $ 5 per day.
Locutus 2of1 (below) Welcome back

Thanks for PROVING MY POINT!

US corporations have done and continue to do just that. Yet somehow you state that it is ME that wants to do it. Do you listen to yourself BEFORE going after me?

You could find those same conditions here in the United States. I am betting 30 days will not bother to look though.

CONSUMER ALERT – BEWARE: Calls from “Job Line”?

February 12th, 2012 3 comments

Question by In God We Trust: CONSUMER ALERT – BEWARE: Calls from “Job Line”?
Beware!!!! This is actually $ 9/Minute Scam

Consumers report receiving automated message calls from a service calling itself “The Jobline” where you’re told they have jobs for you. It’s just a scam. If you call the number back, you will get charged $ 9 per minute, according to messages left in online forums where people share information on telemarketing numbers. They seem to be using the number 976-4477 in different area codes. A scam targeting people already hard up for work and money, that’s pretty high on the Richter scale of sleaziness.

You should contact the Attorney General in your particular State, the Better Business Bureau and other government agencies about this scam.

Please watch your caller IDs so as NOT to get caught up in this mess.

By all means, please tell me what you think about this matter.
11 minutes ago – 4 days left to answer.
Additional Details
PLEASE pass this along to another deserving person. Thanks.

Breaking or confirming ebay xbox 360 scam “myth”?

February 10th, 2012 No comments

Question by monkafire: Breaking or confirming ebay xbox 360 scam “myth”?
I’m dubbing it a myth at this point because I’ve found nothing of it in the news or from any official sites and I’ve done several searchs, worded several ways on google, dogpile, and yahoo and so far have only come up with hear say. My girlfriend yesterday told me a story that her telemarketing job had told her during training that sounded to me like nothing but a story to convince trainee’s that people are stupid and gullible and ask to be taken advantage of (if you’re a pessimis or general people hater you believe this is acceptable). While I admit it’s true people can be very gullible and not pay attention to details, no one deserves to be scammed.
Apparently they told her a man listed an xbox 360 on ebay for 600.00 dollars and put a picture of an xbox 360 on the auction but in the description stated that it was nothing but a homemade shoe box. After other bids, a man supposedly won the xbox scam and paid for it only after to discover that it was in fact a scam (which it was, if it’s listed as an xbox 360 and #1 holiday gift with a picture of an xbox 360, it’s a scam).
Then she was told he took the scammer to court and the scammer won. I didn’t believe this story because any sale that is misleading over 500 dollars can result in jail time and fines and I also don’t believe the law system (which was basically set up to protect “gullible” or trusting people) would abandon a victim like this (maybe tell them they’re stupid before sending the scammer to jail).
Anyone that has Hard evidence that this story is true or false, please pass it along. Of course I’m aware that scams happen on ebay all the time, 65 % of which are items not being sent or “shilling”, bidding on one’s own auction to raise the ending price.
