Question by : The host “ISP” could not be found?
I am trying to reply to a craigslist ad for a job, but i get this error message

The host ‘ISP’ could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly.
Subject ‘Assistant Teacher-FT (Carlisle & Menaul)/ ACDC Employment App’, Account: ‘POP3′, Server: ‘ISP’, Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D”

how can i fix this? is it because of the attachment? it’s an application. and even when i just type in the email address instead of replying via craigslist I get an error that the attachment wasn’t found. it was a downloaded application and i filled it out and I’m just trying to send it so i can get this job! please help :(

I’ve noticed (and mind you this is not ALWAYS TRUE but it’s a trend I’ve noticed) that if the Craigslist ad has a gmail address for you to reply to, it is often a scammer.

To test it, just send a blank email and if you get a “response” in about 2 minutes, it’s an automated spam thing.

Other than that, if it looks legit and the ad ask for a resume,

Reply with a cover letter, and paste your resume into the body of the email, in case they can’t take attachments. And they can email you if they want to contact you. You have put your home phone number on there only (Cause IMO, You don’t want scammers having your cellph# and you have caller ID).

Hope This Information Useful.

Regards,
Tamim

4chan “ISP has been blocked due to abuse”?

April 21st, 2012 No comments

Question by : 4chan “ISP has been blocked due to abuse”?
When I want to post on 4chan (the /x/ and /cm/ boards in particular), I get this message:

“Posting from your ISP has been blocked due to abuse.”

It is only since yesterday this has happened, and it is getting very irritating. I can view images and save them, but I cannot contribute at all. I am currently living in New Zealand and using Telekom.

Is there anyone else having trouble with this or is there a way to overcome it? Good answer is appreciated.

ISP caught me “Stealing” Fallout game.?

April 17th, 2012 3 comments

Question by Konrad D: ISP caught me “Stealing” Fallout game.?
My ISP caught me “Stealing” Fallout a game. I got a phone call saying to call this number but I deleted it on voice mail and forgot what it clearly said. I called my ISP and they said that I was stealing software, so I told them that the only fallout i had was on my console and that was connected to the internet, and that I have been browsing Fallout based websites recently. They shut down my network until I called them and they gave it back but should I be expecting a lawsuit or something? I believe it was just a warning. Has this happened to anyone else?

They usually only send letters. But they have to have evidence you have actually downloaded the game. Don’t sweat it.

what is an “off shore isp”?

April 13th, 2012 3 comments

Question by baby: what is an “off shore isp”?
I was watching Law and Order tonight so maybe there is no such thing as an “off shore isp” but it was a case whereby they were trying to catch the bad guy by tapping into his private chats from chat rooms and they were doing it from police headquarters. the person monitoring him said they were having a hard time pinning him down because he was “using an off shore isp”. (even though he was in the US). what the heck does this mean? how can you “use” an isp other than your own??????? doesn’t the isp come from the computer you are using? so how can you use another isp if you are on a computer? i don’t understand. please explain. or was this made up for the show? thanx.
what is an off shore internet provider? please give details.
are you saying you can buy internet service from another country even though you live in the US?

Do those “cell phone” cards from Cingular and Verizon for your laptop provide good, stable ISP service

April 5th, 2012 No comments

Question by inactive account: Do those “cell phone” cards from Cingular and Verizon for your laptop provide good, stable ISP service
I live in a rural area where I can’t get broadband service from a cable provider, but I have excellent cell phone coverage. I also don’t want to have to pay for a landline phone when the only thing I would use it for would be to get either a dail-up ISP or DSL.

Best answer:

Answer by Junior D
the Verizon and Sprint cards are great, if you are in the right area!

If that area only has a lesser/slower version of cell protocol, you’ll have less success.

Are you Verizon, do you have evdo service? or just 1x?

Talk to the reps, they don’t know much, but they should know where you can get good ‘cell modem’ service.

Why does old ISP still shows as provider for “Explorer” why?

March 29th, 2012 No comments

Question by grammy: Why does old ISP still shows as provider for “Explorer” why?
I had Localnet.com as ISP provider, changed to Earthlink.net. My toolbar still shows “Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by Localnet” as provider. Why? How do I or can I change this?
Could you explain so a computer “dummy” could fix it? I’m not real good without instructions.

Best answer:

Answer by Mr Cat
It is the Internet Explorer browser. It is not a toolbar and the software that you installed with your “old” ISP modified the IE “title” line. Uninstall that software. If you did and it is still there, search on IEtweak2. The IEtweak2 is an old (but still works!) utility to change the IE title line and number of concurrent downloads (never go higher than 10).

I only asked 1 question and already I’m being accused of “blaming” my ISP& browser providers! Report to who?!

March 25th, 2012 5 comments

Question by Anand PA: I only asked 1 question and already I’m being accused of “blaming” my ISP& browser providers! Report to who?!
I’m so new to the world of Internet, but not to the world of psychiatry! Yahoo! tells me I can be vulnerable and ask what to do about these invasive “registrycleanerxp.com” assaults, and some woman is accusing me of BLAMING my ISP & BROWSER! I’M blaming “registrycleanerxp.com!” for being a pain in my behind! I tried to send them e-mails, politely, to leave me alone, please. Uh… I did get a good answer about “messenger svce.!” Yes, that’s on there, too! Let me figure that one out! Who do I “report” this to? I could recommend a therapist to the woman who misread my question and thought I was “blaming” ComCast or Opera, if she’s interested as to why she jumps to the defense of profit-hungry corporations instead of inexperienced individuals — then we are in a world where it is easier to get along with machines than people for some. Many thanks, “Jibbajabar.” Free tech. advice? God provides. I nearly fell out of my chair. At 51 I can still learn. Love & Light******
